  • The registration desk is located on the right, just inside the entrance. When registering, please bring your prescription from your doctor, health insurance cards and your co-payment if applicable.
  • Bring a list of your medications that you are currently taking. Do not forget to include any over the counter medicines such as vitamins, herbs, ointments and salves.
  • Please bring a completed copy of the medical history to your first visit.

Initial evaluation

During your first appointment, your therapist will build a more complete understanding of your problem. He or she will gather extensive information about the history and nature of your symptoms and perform tests and measurements to establish your current ability levels. Your first visit may take approximately 90 minutes.

Your therapist will explain how the findings of the examination relate to specific anatomical or physiological problems. Then he or she will outline the best course of care to make you feel better and optimize your functional abilities.

What to wear

Access to the specific body part is important during both the evaluation and follow-up treatment sessions. For shoulder and elbow problems, please wear a loose-fitting T-shirt or tank top. An elastic waistband is helpful for low-back conditions. If you have neck problems and long hair, please bring something to pull it back.

If needed, private treatment rooms are available for extra privacy. You may be asked to wear a hospital gown if your therapist cannot access the relevant body part.

Home exercise programs

Positive therapy results depend largely on your adherence to the home exercise regime established by your therapist, if necessary. You will receive handouts that outline the frequency and duration of the exercises. Before you try them at home, your therapist will make sure you can perform them correctly and safely. Patients who follow their home exercise program report faster progress toward their goals and tend to need fewer therapy appointments.

Patient responsibility

To ensure success in your therapy sessions, patient education in self-management is necessary. This includes having an engaged care partner that can assist with care, education and treatment. The important areas of education include risk-reduction practices, self-lymph drainage, skin care, signs and symptoms of infection, proper fit and care of garments and exercise.

Please call as soon as possible if you need to cancel your appointment so that we may open that appointment to other patients. If you do not show for your appointment, you will need to call to schedule another appointment or to verify further appointments. You may incur a $25 charge for not cancelling appointments.
